02/06/2018: US and DPRK showdown at 2018 Winter Olympics | US memo dispute over Russia probe

US Vice President Mike Pence will bring the father of Otto Warmbier, an American student who was imprisoned in the DPRK for 17 months and died shortly after he was sent back to the US, as his guest for the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea (ROK). What message is Pence trying to send to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and to the global community? The DPRK confirmed that it is sending its highest-ranking official in years to visit the ROK during the Games. Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly, will be leading a delegation of high-ranking officials to celebrate the events. Should this visit be seen as a DPRK publicity stunt or PR victory?

US President Donald Trump must decide by Friday if a controversial Democratic memo will be released to the public. The memo is a response to Republican accusations that senior FBI and Justice Department officials misled a secret surveillance court. What will Trump decide? Will US bipartisan relations be further ruptured?
