1 million visitors in Beijing on National Day

Local authorities announced Beijing’s major tourist sites received about 1.15 million tourists on Thursday, during China’s week-long National Day holiday.

According to the municipal tourism commission, the Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, received its daily maximum of 80,000 tourists and stopped selling tickets at 1 p.m. local time.

It said the renowned Temple of Heaven and the Badaling Great Wall received 58,000 and 25,000 tourists, up 191 percent and 40 percent year on year respectively.

China’s National Day holiday began Thursday.
