11 miners rescued after cave-in in SW China

All 11 miners trapped in a mine in southwest China’s Yunnan Province have been brought out to safety after 40 hours of rescue.

The trapped miners were carried out on stretchers early Monday morning through a tunnel excavated during the rescue.

A cave-in occurred at the stannum mine in Lianghe County at around 1 p.m. Saturday, when the miners were working underground.

Local authorities said the accident was caused by a mudflow triggered by continuous downpours in the county.

Local authorities mobilized some 1,000 people for the rescue.
