15 dead after Myanmar jade mine landslide

A landslide at an illegal jade mine has killed 15 people in Myanmar’s Kachin State. The victims were searching for jade pieces in Hpakan township when the mine collapsed after heavy rain. There are also around 100 missing people – a local emergency worker said they were feared dead. The rescue work was difficult as there were no machines on hand. The township has suffered more than 40 landslides since 2015, one of which killed 13 people early this month.
