India’s upper house of parliament approved a bill that allows 16-to-18-year-olds to be tried as adults for heinous crimes. The bill was passed in the lower house in May this year, and came up for discussion in the upper house on Tuesday. It means that juveniles found guilty of crimes such as rape and murder can now be given the same punishments as adults.
