1,600 stores destroyed in Myanmar market fire

A huge fire broke out at Mingalazay Market in Myanmar’s Yangon on Saturday, engulfing three floors of the building and destroying more than 1,600 shops.

Police say the loss reached more than 2.7 million U.S. dollars.

Mingalar is the one of the largest wholesale markets in Yangon.

The blaze began from the fourth floor, which housed cosmetic and drug stores, and extended to the third and second.

It was put out hours later, with the help of fire engines and hundreds of fire fighters.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
