17-Feet long King – Cobra caught in Thiruvananthapuram Peringamala
Thiruvananthapuram: After hours of ordeal, a 17-foot-long male King Cobra was captured from a timber garage near Edanjaaru in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. The 9-year old King Cobra weighing around 20 kilograms was caught by Sanal, a forest department employee. King cobras measuring upto 20 feet has been found in India.

Sanal has already captured over 1000 snakes from various parts of Kerala. It is the 10th King Cobra caught by him so far. King cobras have been sighted atleast 50 times in Kerala over the past decade.

The King cobra was later released in the Peringavanam forest by the forest officials. King Cobra is a highly poisonous reptile that carries neurotoxins causing rapid fatality. Usually found in hilly areas, it avoids human contact. The life span of a cobra ?the only species that makes nests to lay eggs ? is about 30 years.
