Security has been a major concern in Rio, especially after a dozen people were arrested last week over a very amateur terror plot. In the final week before the Olympics, another issue has emerged: Brazil’s federal government has severed its contract with a security firm that was supposed to operate x-ray machines during the Games. The apparatuses would have been used to scan bags and people entering the Olympic areas. But the country’s Minister of Justice has said 85,000 military personnel and police will patrol the city during the Games, double the number of security forces dispatched during London 2012.
