The president of the IOC, Thomas Bach, landed in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday. His first order of business was to visit the Olympic Village where claims of poor living conditions earlier this week had turned into an embarrassment for the organizers. Competitors from Argentina and Australia temporarily decamped to hotels after encountering problems in their apartments including lack of water, faulty plumbing and exposed wires. Bach played down the problems, saying he had enjoyed a “very good visit”.
