4 dead after car hits crowd in E China

Four people died and 18 others were injured as a man drove his car into a crowd on Tuesday in east China’s Jiangxi Province.

Witnesses say a white vehicle struck pedestrians on a road near a middle school in Fengxin County.

“I thought the driver would try to escape, so I call the police without any hesitation. He drove so fast that many people in front were knocked down immediately.”

The injured have been rushed to hospitals.

The 43-year-old driver has been held by police. Witnesses said he tried to commit suicide after the incident.

Further investigation into the incident is under way.
