Local authorities in Yancheng city, east China’s Jiangsu Province, said the death toll after Thursday’s tornado had climbed to 98 by Friday morning, with 846 people hospitalized. They also noted that over 8,000 houses had collapsed, and eight factories were damaged in Funing County, one of the worst-hit areas. Power supplies were also knocked out in some districts. President Xi Jinping has directed authorities to make all-out efforts in rescuing the injured and reducing the mortality rate. Meanwhile, Premier Li Keqiang ordered local authorities to step up weather monitoring and forecasting.
