A new look of an old industry — 20150731

On the commercial street of Doming Rd. neighborhood in Shanghai’s Pudong New District, there’s a small store displaying a range of daily products. But it’s not an ordinary convenience store. Consumers can shop here with their green points, obtained in a program run by Greenhome, a local recycling company.

The company also accepts a wide range of recycled goods, and helps customers to remove big objects for free.

The reason behind all those favorable measures could be the higher added value created by the company’s sophisticated processing system, where scraps are dismantled, re-classified, and re-sold to disposal companies, in some cases, nearly three times the initial recycling price.
