Delhi Government will submit details of its advertisement splurge before Delhi High Court by Monday evening (August 3). HC will hear the case on August 5. Earlier, the Delhi HC said it is “prima facie blatant violation of Supreme Court order” and demanded to know the source of the money and the details of expenditure. A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath also sought details of government expenditure on advertisements issued in print media in other states after May 13, the day Supreme Court’s ruling came into effect. The court reminded the government that the SC order made it clear that taxpayers’ money cannot be spent on political image-building. The court is hearing a bunch of PILs, including one by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, against advertisements said to glorify chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. Noting that SC orders “are operative and enforceable under the Constitution”, the bench said the evidence cited in the petition shows a “prima facie violation”.
