AAP Objects Dr. Kalam’s House Allocation to Mahesh Sharma

Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma, who has been in news for his various comments, including terming the Dadri lynching an accident, seems to have landed himself an early Diwali gift – an allotment letter to 10 Rajaji, recently vacated by late APJ Abdul Kalam’s family. The type-VIII bungalow – one of the largest in the Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone was once occupied by Edwin Lutyens himself. Last year, when the British architect’s granddaughter came to India to see his work, she had visited the bungalow. The sprawling house is among the handful of residential spaces in the exclusive enclave that are two-storied. “This was constructed by Lutyens for himself and therefore he took the liberty of making it an expansive structure,” said a senior official from the Central Public Works Department. And it seems a few rules were bent to allot the bungalow, which stands on a 7367-sq mt plot, to Sharma. “As per rules, a bungalow of this size is allotted to cabinet ministers or those holding cabinet ranks. As a Minister of state and a first-time MP, he is not entitled to it,” the official added. Sharma was recently reprimanded by BJP chief Amit Shah for being a motormouth.
