The Aam Aadmi Party today held protests in New Delhi, seeking the resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The protesters convened at Jantar Mantar and walked towards Parliament Street, where they were stopped by the police from proceeding ahead. There has also been growing dissent over the Prime Minister’s silence in the Lalitgate controversy with the opposition demanding why the PM has maintained silence over Swaraj and Raje’s involvement in the controversy. Opposition parties have demanded the removal of Swaraj and Raje over the help they extended to former IPL chief Lalit Modi in procuring travel documents and extending his stay in the UK. Protestors have sought the removal of Irani over allegedly furnishing false information about her educational qualifications before the Election Commission.
