Around 46,000 passengers were stranded at Guangzhou Railway Station as of 10 p.m. on Tuesday. A large number of trains were reportedly delayed due to the slushy weather. In this aerial shot, passengers are seen walking very slowly – they were on their way to reunite with their families for the annual Spring Festival.
To cope with the demand, Guangzhou Railway Group arranged eight extra high-speed trains on Wednesday morning, easing almost 10,000 passengers from Guangzhou Railway Station. An estimated 20,000 passengers were left to wait for trains early Wednesday.
16 temporary canopies have been set up outside the station to facilitate the stranded passengers.
