Afghan flooding kills at least 17

An overnight flood killed at least 17 people in a remote area in in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Khost on Monday.

Officials said on Tuesday that the heavy rain-triggered flood hit Chitral, an area bordering northern Pakistan.

Some houses were washed away by flash waters, causing the casualties.

District officials said the bad weather hampered the rescue but most bodies had been retrieved by Sunday morning.
