Afghan Taliban leader “probably killed” in US drone strike

The US says it has probably killed the leader of the Afghan Taliban, Mullah Akhtar Mansour, in a drone strike on Saturday. The strike was authorized by US President Barack Obama, and targeted Mansour in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region. Mansour’s death, if confirmed, could have repercussions within the Taliban, with preexisting dissent over his role as leader since he assumed the title last July.
