To the delight of some and the dismay of others, digitally altering, or ‘Photoshopping’, people’s images have come a long way in the past decades. But what if that manipulation could be done to create a 3 dimensional image, and carried out almost instantly?
Researchers at the University of Washington in the US are making strides towards creating such a design. The research plans to overcome the limitations of current technology that requires a subject to be brought into a studio and covered with motion capture sensors. Taking only ordinary photographs powerful algorithms could be used to build a 3D model and capture details like eye color, skin color, and even skin texture. One day the researchers also plan to be able to capture and replicate how a person moves all from 2 dimensional photographs.
