Aligarh Muslim University To Remain Non-Minority Institution

The Centre today withdrew its appeal from the apex court over the minority status to the Aligarh Muslim University overturning UPA’s appeal. The Attorney General told court that that government stand is the same and which is that the university is not a minority institution. Centre has so far maintained that granting privileges on religious grounds to an institution set up by a legislative act would be contrary to country’s secular policy.
