Amazing Indians: Retired IPS officer & Musahars of Bihar – Se 4 #EP 5 – Part 1

JK Sinha, a retired IPS officer, has been tirelessly working towards providing an education to one of the most downtrodden communities of our country – the Musahars of Bihar. He started a free English-medium residential school in 2009, with the objective of providing quality education to the poorest of the poor. The Musahars (rat-eaters) are landless labourers who have been living in grinding poverty for centuries. Many among them are like bonded labourers living in ghettoes on the outskirts of villages. Determined to do something about their situation, JK Sinha started this school that imparts quality education to the children of the Musahar community. The students are provided boarding, clothes, books, healthcare and other necessities – all of it free of cost. By enabling hundreds of these boys to make a quantum jump in life, JK Sinha is a true catalyst of change.

Chintakindi Mallesham’s is one incredible story. Born to a weaver in Nalgonda, as a young boy he saw his mother suffering as she had to weave Ponchampally sarees through a laborious process called Asu. This required her to move her hands 9000 times to and fro to make one such saree. This proved to detrimental to her vision and hands. And it was with the resolve to put an end to her sufferings and that of every weaver that Mallesham decided to come up with a solution. This class 6 dropout devised the electronic Laxmi Asu machine, one that put an end to the agony of the weavers and reduced the time taken to make one saree from 6 hours to 1.5 hours. A blessing for the weavers of Nagonda…Mallesham is a messiah who has transformed their lives!
