Actress Angelina Jolie said on Tuesday the Islamic State was using rape as a centrepoint of its terror and a way to destroy communities and families.
Speaking at a British government committee on sexual violence and war, Jolie called IS the most aggressive terrorist group in the world today.
She urged a strong response to the organization, according to the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
Jolie said IS was dictating rape “as a policy” in Syria and Iraq.
Jolie and former British foreign secretary William Hague launched an initiative to prevent sexual violence in conflict three years ago.
She provided evidence to the committee on the initiative’s impact.
