AskChina: No compromise on improving people’s livelihoods

One of the toughest challenges for the next five-year plan is lifting 55 million people above the poverty line. To achieve this goal by 2020, the government will boost efforts in creating more jobs while making education development a top priority for promoting social mobility. But some people are concerned that the government will not be capable of providing better public services when faced with shrinking fiscal revenue. Zhou Nan, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission, quoted Premier Li Keqiang as she reaffirmed that there would be “no compromise on livelihood improvements,” defiantly saying “yes, we can!”
