AskChina: No proof on dumping accusations

The US recently has imposed a severe 266% tariff on cold-rolled steel from China, after some domestic steel producers filed petitions accusing several international competitors of dumping their products in the country.

Shen said the accusations are “of no proof”. What’s more, Shen also opposed the rumors that these steel companies are being aided by the government.

“It’s wrong to think that Chinese government is subsidizing its steel companies just because these companies are competitive,” said Shen.

Shen also said that the Ministry of Commerce encourages these companies to confront the American companies directly, and seek help from the industry associations: “If you (the US) think there are government subsidies, then show your proof; If you are still determined to raise the tariff, then I’ll see you at WTO.”
