AskChina: Why doesn’t China take part in the PCA tribunal?

In response to netizens’ questions and concerns, CCTVNEWS invited Liao Shiping, a professor at the Law School of Beijing Normal University, to discuss the South China Sea dispute and the tribunal. According to Liao, China has maintained a consistent position not to participate in the South China Sea arbitration. As China has repeatedly stressed, states have the right not to accept or participate in the arbitration according to international law.
