Chinese people spent around 1.2 trillion yuan (185 billion US dollars) overseas in 2015, according to the Ministry of Commerce. In Japan alone, the amount of money that Chinese tourists spent last year reached 720 million US dollars, which even triggered an online buzzword “shopping spree (爆買)” in the country.
On Thursday, speaking to CCTVNEWS as part of our special feature Ask China, Shen Danyang, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, said that the phenomenon is indicative of the work that lies ahead for Chinese brands in terms of enhancing products quality.
What’s more, Shen said that China is working on structural reform in terms of supply to sell more products that people actually need.
