At least 14 killed after M6.2 earthquake hits central Italy

Italy’s state broadcaster RAI reports that at least 14 people, including children, are believed to have been killed. The worst-affected towns are Accumoli, Amatrice, Posta and Arquata del Tronto. The quake struck at 1:36 a.m GMT. The US Geological Survey issued a red alert, which means extensive damage is likely. Strong tremors have also been felt in the capital Rome.
