At least 28 killed in magnitude-7.3 quake in Kyushu

The death toll from a powerful earthquake in Japan has climbed to 28, bringing the total death toll to 37 in two earthquakes that struck near the city of Kumamoto, on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu. The epicenter for Saturday’s magnitude-7.3 earthquake was at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was felt in at least five prefectures, collapsing houses and cutting roads. More than 1,600 people are reportedly injured. The quake hit just one day after a 6.5-magnitude quake rocked the same area.
