At least 40 killed in India’s central and eastern regions

At least 40 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands evacuated after widespread flooding hit vast areas of central and eastern India. Days of heavy rain have caused water levels on the Ganges River and its tributaries to reach dangerously high levels during the past 48 hours. Most of the deaths were caused by drowning, electrocution or collapsed houses.
