Athletes’ Village unveiled for Rio Olympics

President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach inaugurated the Athletes’ Village on June 15 in Barra da Tijuca for the Olympic and Paralymic Games to be held in August and September in Rio de Janeiro.

“They will prepare for the competitions, but at the same time they will dine together, they will discuss together, they will celebrate together, and in doing so sending a strong message of understanding, peace and respect to the whole world.

The village can accommodate 17,950 residents on a compound of 200,000 square meters.

“I would say it is a world that we want, where with all faiths, all races and all guidelines, people will live in harmony and peace.”
In the village are 4.5 kilometers of bike path and 5.5 million square meters of water surface.
It will take no more than 50 minutes for a resident to reach for training and competition.
