The African Union says it has written to Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza urging him to accept the deployment of a peacekeeping force to quell the country’s escalating unrest. Burundi has been rife with violence and protests since its president announced plans to seek an additional term in office. In a statement, AU Commission Chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has stressed that there is no ulterior motive in sending the troops to the nation.
