Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s coalition is edging closer to a slim majority victory, as vote counting continues. But opposition leader Bill Shorten has warned that even if the government gets a majority, it will emerge a divided administration without a mandate for its agenda. Turnbull had called the early election in order to push proposed corporate tax cuts through the parliament. However, his polling has led to attacks from inside and outside his coalition, as his attempt to end an unfavorable upper house looks to have failed.
