As the earth’s tectonic plates shift, so do the world’s countries. Australia has announced it will adjust its official latitude and longitude coordinates to match current satellite data. The continent down under has moved one and a half meters since 1994, about the height of an average kangaroo. Australia’s government science body says the country shifts north by about seven centimeters each year. Slight changes can cause major headaches for people using GPS technologies that rely on precise location data.
