Austrian chancellor defends its asylum policy

Vienna announced last week that it would cap the daily number of asylum applications and migrants allowed to cross the country. Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann on Tuesday defended his country’s asylum policy, amid criticism from Germany that Austria was allowing too many people to transit through. Faymann said Austria understood the European Commission instruction that no one should be “waved through” and refused to comment further on the matter.
