Autophagy researcher Yoshinori Ohsumi wins 2016 Nobel Prize in medicine

The 2016 Nobel Prize season is underway, and Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi has won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his discoveries in autophagy, and the degradation and recycling of cellular components. The 71-year-old microbiologist is a professor at the Tokyo Institute of Technology. He told Japanese broadcaster NHK that the award was “the highest honor for a researcher.”
