Baby elephant saved after wandering into SW China home

An injured baby elephant was saved last week after wandering into a farmer’s home in southwest China.

The female elephant, believed to be one month old, crashed into a villager’s bedroom in Yunnan Province on Aug. 17.

“We were both scared and curious. We also took pity on it. We then fed her with bananas and milk, and set up a hut for her to stay in.”

Locals found the elephant has a gash on her left hind leg, and her umbilical cord appeared to be infected.

Villagers called the forestry police to help treat her wounds and infection.

She’s believed to have wandered off or abandoned by the heard after becoming injured.
