Beijing encourages renovating traditional courtyard for tourism and protecting the cultural relics

For some tourists to Beijing,  just seeing the city’s history is not enough. They want to live it. Cultural relic expert Deng Wei calls Siheyuan, or Courtyard, the living fossils of the ancient city. The capital’s authorities have recently drafted new guidelines that allow residents to utilize their own Siheyuan to run tourism business, so as to protect those traditional courtyards and part of the Beijingers’ collective memory.
