Beijing reiterates ‘firm support’ for HK chief executive Carrie Lam

Beijing has once again reiterated its “firm support” for Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam, after nearly two million people rallied on June 16 to demand her resignation over her handling of the extradition bill saga.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry has insisted that the protests are “not in line with the mainstream public opinion in Hong Kong”, and continues to blame “foreign interference” for the mass demonstrations in the city.
