Beijing has raised its heavy rain alert from yellow to orange, the second highest of China’s four-tier warning system. It is expected to stay in place overnight, with some areas of the city estimated to receive more than 100mm of rain. Nearly 200 flights scheduled to leave Beijing were cancelled in the early afternoon on Wednesday. As a result of flooding, local railway and subway services have also been disrupted.
