Experts from China and the US held a dialogue in Washington D.C. on Tuesday regarding the South China Sea dispute. It comes a week before an arbitration tribunal at The Hague, unilaterally initiated by the Philippines, announces its ruling over the South China Sea territorial dispute. Former Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo delivered a keynote speech, during which he said: “Whoever lets the situation [in the South China Sea] deteriorate, and ultimately end in disaster, must take on the historical consequences.” He added that China would always insist on negotiations to resolve any dispute in the South China Sea.
