Bihar becomes fourth Indian state to ban alcohol

The eastern Indian state of Bihar has imposed a complete ban on the production and sale of alcohol. The state government had earlier said that the ban would be enforced gradually in the next six months. First there would be a ban on Indian-made alcohol from April 1, and then on imports. However Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced the total alcohol ban on Tuesday. It was one of his election campaign promises during last year’s state elections. Bihar is the fourth state in India to completely ban alcohol.
