BJP Slams Azam Khan Over Remarks on Paris Terror Attacks

BJP on Monday (November 16) strongly criticised UP Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan for blaming the Paris attacks on Western countries’ action in Syria and Iraq, terming his comments “unfortunate”. “It is an unfortunate statement. He should avoid giving such statements, because it not only creates a bad impression of the nation, it also dilutes India’s resolve to fight terrorism,” said BJP leader Sidharth Nath Singh. Laxmi Kant Bajpai, state president of BJP in Uttar Pradesh, demanded a clarification by UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav over Khan’s comments. “Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav should clarify whether they agree with Khan’s statements,” he said. He further added that Khan’s remarks were “not only inappropriate but also condemnable”. In a controversial statement on Friday’s Paris attacks, senior Samajwadi Party leader and UP minister Azam Khan said the global superpowers must realize that the terror attack was a reaction to their action in Syria and Iraq. Khan, who condemned the terror attack as unfortunate, however, added that European cities “cannot be lit up with the ill-gotten wealth from the oil reserves of Middle East”.
