Bombay High Court Puts Stay On Controversial Ban On Sale Of Meat

The Bombay High Court on Monday (September 14) stayed the ban on sale of meat on September 17 in Mumbai. It however, refused to interfere with the ban on slaughter of animals on that day. The court allowed the sale of meat on Thursday but said it would not interfere with the closure of abattoirs. The court also referred to a 2004 notice and said though the state government circular banning meat sale on two days was issued in 2004, it was never implemented fully. The high court questioned the ban on only two products and asked why the ban was not extended to fish and eggs. It added that the BMC policy was not consistently implemented.
