Border police confiscate over 1,000 ancient horseshoe crabs

Border police in southwest China’s Guangxi have seized more than 1,000 Chinese horseshoe crabs.

The creatures were discovered on a fishing boat at a wharf in Beihai city. The owner of the boat said he had no idea how they got in there.

The horseshoe crabs, a nationally protected species, are marine living fossiles that date back to 300 million years ago.

The confiscated creatures were then released back into the sea.
