“I have never been in so much pain. But I thought, I only had two moves left to go so I needed to finish.”
Zhang insisted on persevering with the show despite his clear injury, winning the admiration of all those present. At the end, Zhang received massive applause as he was taken away in a wheelchair.
The acrobat is part of a delegation of Chinese artists in the Central American country to celebrate China’s Spring Festival, the most important festival for the Chinese people, organized by the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Association of Costa Rica.
SOUNDBITE: JIANG KUN, President of the delegation
“It is said that the more time one lives outside the country, the more patriotic one becomes and the more one thinks about their native land. For me, Spring Festival holidays are precious but I have a great desire to bring joy to the people who need it.”
Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is a time when all seek to be together with their family. For Chinese far from their country, it can be even more significant.
