Brazil appoints senior athlete Mayor of Olympic Village

Two-time Olympic medalist and world champion in basketball Janeth Arcain was appointed Mayor of the Olympic Village on June 23.

“It is a great honor to accept it, for a quality athlete as competent Janeth. This is a social work and she is a world champion.”
The Olympic Village in Barra da Tijuca in west Rio de Janeiro includes 31 buildings 17 floors high, with 3,604 apartments on a land of 800,000 square meters.

“It is one of the largest villages. I am impressed with everything from the amount of rooms to the items in each room.”
The village can accommodate about 18,000 athletes and delegation members who will attend the Olympic and the Paralympic Games in Rio from August to September.

“Security during the games is a must, which you do not have to worry about. Everyone is equal, whether a great athlete, a great tourist, or a fan.”
After the Games in 2017, the 920 million U.S. dollars project will undergo innovation and be marketed.
