Brazil’s interim president holds first cabinet meeting

Brazil’s new interim president, Michel Temer, held his first official cabinet meeting on Friday, after vowing the new team would try to rescue the country’s plunging economy at a moment of profound political confrontation. The new cabinet has 23 ministers, a third fewer than the previous administration. The interim president’s aides said the new government would soon announce a series of austerity measures to help reduce a massive budget deficit.
