California attack exposes possible US blind spots

Unidentified terrorism analysts say the California shooting has exposed blind spots or difficulties the US authorities face in their fight against terrorism. George Washington University’s program on extremism has identified some 300 Twitter accounts of US-based Islamic State sympathizers and analyzed their activity online. The analysts also say the forms of terrorist attacks are diversifying and the motives of would-be terrorists are mixed, which could leave US authorities seemingly powerless to prevent gun violence and purchase of weapons by suspected terrorists.
