They had already served time for the crimes they committed. Now with Donald Trump as president, these US permanent residents are being deported, barred from the country they call home.
Under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act enacted by ex-President Bill Clinton in 1996, any legal immigrant in the United States that has committed a crime can be deported back to their home countries.
More recently, the number of deportations of Cambodians have surged, ostensibly due to Trump’s aggressive anti-immigrant policies.
