Speaking in favour of bringing in the Uniform Civil Code, spokesperson of the BJP, Nalin Kohli stated one cannot choose a part of the Constitution and choose to discard the rest.
“The Constitution creates an identity for every Indian irrespective of their faith. This Constitution has its own rights, duties, directive principles etc. When you have a Constitution, and in that, the Constitution has Article 14 and also has the Directive Principles of State Policy, Article 44. Can anyone, any Indian say that I will choose a part of the Constitution because I like it, it’s convenient to me, it fits into the scheme of how I think and say that the ‘b’ part of it, even if it is a desirable objective, I don’t want to accept, I need to discard it. I think this is an insult to the Constitution,” stated Nalin Kohli.
